The Anthroposophical medical approach, and training for already qualified doctors was initiated by Rudolf Steiner together with his close colleague Dr Ita Wegman. Anthroposophical Medicine provides deep insight into the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of the individual, both in health and illness. It describes the specific relationships that exist between the human being and the surrounding world of nature, enabling the forces within mineral, plant and animal substances to be harnessed and used rationally and individually in therapy. Illness is thereby treated at a deeper level than can be achieved by symptomatic treatment.
This approach strongly supports the transformative and self-empowering role that can occur through illness. Therapies include medications made out of natural substances according to special pharmaceutical processes including potentisation, various forms of art therapy including therapeutic eurythmy, rhythmical massage, dietary indications, counselling and self healing measures.
