The Camphill Movement and other related communities provide a quality life for people in need of special understanding and care (normally referred to as mentally handicapped). Based on a village model, these usually rural communities involve adult residents in meaningful work in Bio-Dynamic farming and gardening, in making cheese, yoghurt, bread and herbal products, and in various craft workshops.
In school communities children receive curative education based on Waldorf principles, and in both adult and children's villages residents live with house parents in family-like homes. Healthy work together with therapeutic, artistic and social activities such as seasonal festivals create a rich and challenging environment in which all can develop their potential and lead productive and meaningful lives. These communities are founded on recognition of the whole person, true regard for the humanity and individuality of each, and mutual service and sharing of resources.
